the US federal government enacted a law last year that took most of the year to sweep across the US (it went in phases - west coast to east coast). it is now FREE for EVERY citizen to get a copy of his/her credit report from each of the 3 credit reporting bureaus ONCE a year.
A law passed that once a year everyone is in titled to one free credit report from each major reporting agency. Of course they will try to get you to buy fico score and blah blah, but they do owe you one free report.

You have to have credit to get a credit report. That can also be your home or car.
